Mr. HUEN Chun Pong
Prosthetist and Orthotist
BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics (HKPU)
What is Orthotics?
Orthosis is a device applied directly and externally to the patients body with the objective of supporting, correcting or compensating for a deformity or weakness. It may be applied with the additional objective of assisting, allowing or restricting, movement of the body.
The term orthotics covers the theory and practice of prescription, fitting, design assessment and production of orthosis.
Who can benefit from using Orthosis?
People who have musculoskeletal disorders like weakened or injured joints and/or muscle groups are benefited from using custom-made orthotics and other devices to provide external support for spine, knee or foot.
Consultation with our practitioners regarding specialized orthoses is available in such areas as:
- Traumatic injuries to back and limbs such as fracture bracing
- Congenital or Postoperative treatment
- Chronic conditions or diseases like Rheumatic Arthristis
- Geriatrics and Pediatrics conditions
- Sports medicine
How can an Orthotist help me?
With professional skills and biomechanics analysis, the orthotist custom fits an off-the-shelf device to your dimensions, or incorporates additional components to achieve the desired results.
You may be wearing temporarily until a weakness or injury is overcome, or on a permanent basis to facilitate impaired function due to a congenital or degenerative condition.
What is Prosthetics?
A Prothesis is an artificial replacement or substitute for a loss in part of full, of a limb (extremity) due to congenital or acquired cause.
Who can benefit from using Prothesis?
For those who have lost limbs as a result of traumatic injuries, vascular diseases, diabetes, cancer or congenital disorders will be benefited by restoring, as completely as possible, the function and appearance of a full or partial missing limb.
What can a Prothesis therapy do for you?
The therapist tailor-made the prothesis and the design of the prosthesis is determined by the patients physical changes, activity level, and functional needs.
Prosthetic adjustments, repairs, realignment, and component upgrading are also aspects of ongoing treatment.
Because of vast differences in human anatomy, the fabrication of prostheses is necessarily an intricate, custom procedure requiring a high degree of skill and sophisticated technology. The preliminary, or temporary prosthesis is followed by a definitive prosthesis as soon as the residual limb is stable.
